Month: December 2001

  • night of a thousand lists

    Books on the to-read list:

    • Godel, Escher, Bach, which is still in progress
    • All the Harry Potter books
    • All of the Lord of the Rings books (hopefully, I’ll get these done before the second movie comes out)

That’s only seven books, most of which are over 500 pages. Wheee!

All in all, I had a great Christmas holiday. I stayed for four days with Sandy at her parents’ house where I was put to work in the fields and toiled for…. heh. No, it was really relaxing. I wish I had a hot tub.
I would live in it, and it would have waterproof consoles so I could IRC from the water. Yeah. Anyways, after that I went and stayed at my parents’ cottage over Christmas proper. It finally snowed on Christmas eve and every day after, so I got to take the snowmobile out! It was great seeing my cousins for Christmas dinner. Lucky kids got a PS2.
Grrrr. Oh well. I got a LEGO Train, a wireless keyboard, and a 40GB drive. Ahhh, toys.

  • R.I.P. Model M

I just retired my IBM Modem M keyboard. I rescued it myself from my old high school, and popped off every keycap and cleaned them individually with a toothbrush.
Unfortunately, someone who I live with obtained for me this Logitech Cordless Freedom keyboard/mouse set for Christmas. I like my old Model M’s noise, but I also like having the extra shortcut keys on the top of the keyboard. The cordless optical mouse is nice too — I just can’t figure out why sometimes, when I leave it alone, the LED on the bottom of the mouse flashes in time with my SCSI bus activity light. Anyways, it was a lovely gift. But if I happen to break this keyboard (which I have done before — I am hard on keyboards) the Model M is coming out again.

  • phone lines are slow

Semester’s over. I’m on vacation. That is all. See you December 28th.

  • NB: DO NOT EAT

    Damn, it’s been a while.

    Things I hate right now:

    • Canada Post. After mailing at least a hundred UNNA CD sets in the same padded mailing envelopes using lettermail postage, this week they decide to return my latest two mailings because they do not conform to lettermail specifications. They’re actually “oversized lettermail”, meaning I get to add an extra $0.70 postage. Thanks for telling me now… I need smaller mailers.
    • Rogers Cable Internet. I thought the transition was going great, but then today they’re having massive problems with DHCP. Should be fixed tomorrow, they say. gah. ‘scuse me while I set up a cron job for DHCP…
    • Mozilla builds have been sucking hard lately.

Okay, that bit of venting is done. Things that are good right now:

    • One exam down, three to go. Only one nasty exam to go.
    • Many Buffy VCDs. Yay.
    • Related to the above, I got my ATI TV Wonder card the other day. Works great for recording to VCD files. Kickass.
    • Oh yeah. The semester’s over. And I might just pass and get decent grades in all my classes, for the first time ever.
    • This page now over 15 000 hits. w00t.

    That is all.
