InPath barcode scanner driver for Newton

Once upon a time, there was a company called InPath. InPath made barcode scanners and stuff like that. They made a cool little serial barcode for the scanner and called it the MW-400. This scanner was powered completely by the serial port, and it was Good. A few companies made applications that used the scanner, but that seemed to be it. And then the scanner was discontinued. It’s a damn cool little piece of hardware though, certainly the smallest self-contained barcode scanner I’ve ever seen. And it uses an RS-232 connection as well!

Anyways, this is a little driver for that barcode scanner. It will insert whatever code you scan with the InPath at the cursor of the foreground application.

How to use:

  1. Install package, plug in barcode scanner.
  2. Launch package.
  3. Tap connect. Green light on scanner will come on, then off.
  4. Tap on the star to minimize the driver to the top of the screen
  5. Scan to your heart’s content.
  6. When you’re done, tap the star and select InPath, then close the driver’s window. It will shut off the serial port.

Easy as pie. This driver was created using source from Daniel Padilla‘s Stowaway keyboard driver. Thanks, Daniel.
