  • euuuuughhh. second try.

Wow, I’m so out of it that I posted a blank entry. Hope that doesn’t mess things up.

For some reason, I feel like total ass today. I have a splitting headache that won’t go away. I my face looks like a total burn-out. My brain is having a hard time functioning – it feels like it’s stuck in some mud. I feel a little bit sick – do I need to eat food, or not eat food? I think I need to eat – my tummy is grumbly. Bagel time.

  • Newt and other news

I’ve been collecting great Newton news sites. Here’s my list:

    • Newton Does It. This site is usually updated faster than my brain 🙂 Andre does such a damn fine job with updates, I’m starting to think he might be the most advanced web robot of all time 🙂
    • Newton Enlightenment. As above, but with images and much richer content, and a nice events list too.
    • Newton Dose. For your daily Newton fix, when you don’t feel like reading 100 messages 🙂

We’re going to see LOTR:TTT on Wednesday, at 6, at the Paramount in Toronto. Schweeeet.

An awesome interview with Shigeru Miyamoto that also manages to be an article about the future of games. (Miyamoto is the brain at Nintendo behind Mario, Zelda, and just about every videogame innovation you’ve ever heard of). In short: some people think that Miyamoto is holding back the industry because his games are too child-like. I love what Miyamoto says: “I am not convinced that being more realistic makes better games.” That’s my philosophy as well.

  • die, telemarketers!

This is one of the smartest things I’ve seen in a long time. A counter-script to follow when a telemarketer calls you, much like the one they use on you. Brilliant. I’m putting this up next to the phone.

  • American officials totally ignorant of clean power sources – more old news at 11

This story caugh my eye because it mentioned inspectors going to Iran to examine nuclear sites. Not UN weapons inspectors, but the IAEA, to make sure that Iran isn’t developing nuclear technology for weapons uses.

The thing about this that made me laugh out loud was in the third from last paragraph:

The US says it is concerned that Iran intends to develop weapons-grade plutonium there.
American intelligence officials argue that this is the only reason why an oil rich state like Iran would need a nuclear power plant.

Uhm… have these people ever heard of not burning oil in order to not flood half the planet in a hundred years? You know, the environment and all that? Maybe they’re all thinking like the Rich Texan from The Simpsons? “In Texas, we got rid of the environment, and it made everyone a looooot happier!” Or they’re too short-sighted by their own witch hunt for “evil” to see the obvious use. Pathetic.

  • trains, trains, trains.

sitting on a tail track just outside of Union Station, Toronto.

  • Wow. The US did something right?

This crap. So they stop the ship. It’s carrying missiles. The US suspects that they may be being shipped to a “potential terrorist nation.” WTF is that? I’ll bet about half the world is a “potential terrorist nation” by now. No one really likes the US anymore – other nations are giving them weird looks, as if to say “What the heck are you guys smoking over there?”

So anyways. The US actually ADMITTED that they have no authority to seize the shipment. One would think that they should be encouraging the Yemenis to buy arms – I mean, isn’t this what the US does? Stockpiling arms in order to bully everyone else around (not to mention prop up the economy)? Heck, that’s the American way! Sell ’em some Patriots in case those Scuds go off course!

    What bloody hypocrites.

  • All good platforms must come to an end.

Last night I had a nice chat with Jon about gaming consoles and the like. He reminisced about his Genesis and 32x, while I can only dream of one day owning a NeoGeo. At least I have its little cousin.

Anyways, because of that it was ironic to see that today IBM has announced that OS/2 is being dropped, finally. OS/2 was a damn find operating system in its day, except that there was virtually no software for it. I have fond memories of running OS/2 Warp on my 386. sniff

And now, Nuclear Weapon Test Films!

  • the UNIX way wins out

Today was a good day. After banging my head against ADSI and ADO, I finally solved my problem the UNIX way: with a Perl CGI program. w00t.
