  • she’s big fish. i’m little fish.

You would have to be Jordan or Mere to get that one.

What have I been up to in the past week?

    • Newton Glossary. Not officially launched yet, but it will be soon.
    • Chasing down eBay sellers who were profiting off my back. Isn’t the Internet great?
    • Work work work.
    • Going out and watching Baraka.
    • Hacking Paul G’s Fortune app for the Newton. (Release is imminent)
    • Having weird dreams. Like last night. I dreamt that I was going to work on the bus, but I was the only one on the bus (except for the driver) and it was cold and I was only wearing a towel, but I had a bag with me that had a change of clothes. So I had to put on the clothes in the bus, and then I got the the subway station and was waiting on the platform (which was huge and weird, for some unknown reason) with other random people. Then some co-workers found me, and told me that they couldn’t get into the building and were looking for me to open the door (apparently I had the right passcard or something). So we got on the subway and went to work (which ended up being a very big building), and there were police and fire trucks parked outside. Some policeman came out of the building and asked me if I could identify the person in this photo (which was about 3′ by 5′, yes, feet) but all that was in the photo was the shadow of the person. Then I woke up, and I was cold because I left the window open last night.

As in both the Bjorn Lynne album, and the track by Air.

I realized that I blame myself for things beyond my control all the time. Like this morning at work, I was doing something and ended up taking down about half of our services (because I did something on the advice of someone else, but no one could have predicted that it would kill so many things) and even though I knew that it wasn’t my fault, I still felt like apologizing. My boss (who’s probably the greatest manager in the world) could tell without even asking, he just said as I left his office “Victor, it’s not your fault.”

Ehh, why not, let’s plug the new Maptuit 1.2.

  • fishy fish, oh fishy fish, I wish I wish I wish…

…I could leap inside your bowl, and eat you up whole.

I wish I could learn Japanese, just so I could read Japanese Newton pages.

  • white noise

    fuckin’ a:

    • The guy next to me insists on keeping the window open, so we can hear the din from the air conditioners on teh roof.
    • The security system guys are still working. They installed the new security pad, right next to my desk, but didn’t program it. This causes it to emit an 85dB beep every 10 seconds. I found the guy and asked him to fix it, so he came and took the pad out.
    • Hey, at least my monitor has stoped shaking randomly.
  • today

    • The bus smelled like paint thinner. I got a headache.
    • I forgot my lunch in the fridge, so I had to buy.
    • Other things, I’ve forgotten them, but there were other things.
  • you know people have been working over the long weekend when…

…the output tray on the laser printer has overflowed all over the floor, and no one has picked it up.

  • my weapon of choice

Rogers@Home sucks a little less, since we finally got connected. But I still can’t change my password, because their web login is horribly broken.

Now I generate an index to the huge list of old entries.

Let’s make another list of things I’m working on, shall we?

    • Resurrecting the NewtonTalk mailing list. Planet Newton seems to be dead, but somehow I don’t think anyone will be attending that funeral.
    • UNNA database. I plan to have this done by the end of the summer, hopefully much, much sooner. Of course, now that the cable is back, I can actually work on it…
    • RotateBook patch. Almost done…

Coming back to Guelph for the weekend is always good. I really like this town. And I always have a great time with Sandy, of course.

  • want this

    gekkomat

    Rogers@Home still blows goats.

  • too low to find my way, too high to wonder why

I finally got the Newton Resources redesign done. I need to do a better logo though, but other than that it’s pretty standard. I decided to keep the same chuma colour set after all, with only a few minor CSS changes, which I’ll probably move over to the chuma CSS soon.

Things on my plate right now:

    • Work.
    • UNNA. Well, actually, this has been reduced to “wait for Rogers@Home to get their collective shit together and get my cable modem delivered in Guelph, so I can bring by development database box back up and work on the UNNA DB.”
    • I’m working on a patch for the Newton’s book reader, with the help of Paul Guyot. I also think I found a bug in the book reader, but I’m not sure yet.
    • My SCSI drive(s) are trying hard to die again. Next paycheque, I need a hard drive.
  • throw your hands in the air

Why I like Bomfunk MCs, I don’t know. I think it’s the same part of me that listens to Len and Aqua. Sometimes, cheezy dance music with stupid lyrics is good. However, extended exposure can lead to permanent brain damage.

Summer is going to be hard. I guess I already knew that. I love my work, but I also love Sandy and love being in Guelph with her.

I need to redesign Newton Resources very, very badly, but I can’t get any design inspiration. I started to think about how to put it together, but I can’t decide on a nice colour scheme. Maybe I’ll just use the same colours as chuma.org – then I don’t have to write another CSS. I should seriously try to get this done tonight after work.

chuma.org just went over 8000 hits since May 24, 2000. Over 8000 hits for a personal website in just a year is pretty good.

Oh, and Rogers@Home can go to hell.
