to the bass

Got another Hed Kandi album: Serve Chilled 3. I was suprised that HMV is starting to get a little smarter: the cashier scrawled “EXCHANGE #2” on my receipt. I wonder what they’re going to start to do with this… anyways, I think I genuinely don’t like this album. A little too mellow for me. I should have gotten something with a little more edge.

Eugh… yeah. It’s time for one of my semi-regular lists ‘o crap! Yeah!

  • Finally got that UNNA upload form done. It’s ugly, but functional.
  • Working on NewtDump again. Almost have the ability to only export from specific folders working. Should eventually work for all of the built-in apps that support folders (Names, Notes, Calls, In/Out, Quotes, Fortunes).
  • After some discussion in NewtonTalk where people said it couldn’t be done, I picked up an old Megahertz Allpoints Wireless Mobitex card courtesy of a reader, and am investigating the usefulness of writing a new NewtonOS driver for it. Phew.
  • UNNA CD orders just keep comin’.
  • Got free SMS again via Me43. So that means that phone@chuma.org is up and running again.

post right or wrong don’t matter when you’re with me sweet

Man, over a week without a peep here isn’t like me.

Still listening to Cake. I don’t like short albums, but this one is good. You must go and watch the video for Short Skirt Long Jacket right now. Now! Cake madness is upon us! Protect your children!

Also listening to the Hed Kandi Summer Sampler 2001, which I got because it was cheap at HMV and I really enjoyed Deeper when I bought it on a whim a few months ago. I’m definately getting in touch with my house side.

On Friday I went to the Radiohead show at Molson Park. It was fucking bloody well awesome. Not much more to say. Beta Band and Kid Koala opened. Beta Band was… less than I hoped for. They played a very quick set. Kid Koala came up next, and spinned for about 45 minutes. Just him and three turntables. He’s very talented; I’d only heard a bit of his stuff before, but it sounds to me like he’s gotten a lot better – I might pick up some of his stuff. Radiohead was… well, fucking bloody awesome. There really isn’t much more to say.

The rest of the weekend was filled with stock car racing and seeing Rush Hour 2. I thought it was better than the first one, mainly because Chan stole the show this time around. Good fun. Also watched Heat on DVD. ‘Twas a good $20 spent. Damn I love that movie. Things I wouldn’t have known but for IMDB: Natalie Portman plays Al Pachino’s daughter. Damn. I never noticed.

post i want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket…

Lucky for me I already have one.

Things that happened today that have never happened to me before:

    • Toronto Hydro caused catastrophic system failure.
    • The bank teller who served me today played on a softball team with me when we were kids.
    • The subway took an hour (instead of 25 minutes).

I’m totally hooked on the new Cake album. This is a good thing.

post there’s no single explanation, there’s no central destination

Back from Ottawa. All in all, it was a great trip. OLS was alright, although I didn’t spend all of my time there. In the draw for early registerers on Saturday, I won an Agenda VR3 Linux-based PDA. It’s… a nice toy, but there’s no way it’s going to replace my Newton. That, and Sandy just got a brand-new eMate 300, so we’re a Newton couple 🙂 The eMate is such a bloody great design. I only wish it had the faster StrongARM CPU.

post the next to do list

    • Clean up all of the back-ordered UNNA CDs
    • Do the goddamn UNNA Database system, dammit!
    • Maybe hack on UnixNPI
    • Get the Ultralite service manual scanned and posted
    • Maybe make a DB with all of the NewtonOS errror codes?

chuma.org went over 11000 hits yesterday.

    post Day 2.5 in Ottawa

The presentation got out early, so I’ve got time to write. About an hour, actually 😛

Sandy’s having a great time so far, which makes me happy. Her and Melissa had a great time shopping yesterday. It’s good, because they haven’t seen each other in so long. On the way home last night we traipsed around a bit on the bus to buy some food, and Tom cooked a nice dinner for us. Melissa said he was on his “best behaviour.” 🙂 Didn’t do much after that; just hung out and vegged. I realized today that I could have been at the reception instead, but oh well. I had already missed most of it by the time we were finished dinner.

Today is a full day at OLS. Ran into an old co-worker over lunch, and wandered around the Rideau Centre trying to find that darn thing, which I finally found. Remembered to reserve tickets for the art gallery tomorrow. Called Stany, but he was busy fixing someone’s servers. Hopefully he calls before Sandy and I go out for dinner, or maybe I’ll meet up with him tomorrow.
