I am now a fully licenced G class driver in the province of Ontario. Another seven mistakes and I would have failed 😛 Don’t you feel safe?

duh, forgetful me.
I totally forgot to mention that I went to the women’s tennis finals in Toronto yesterday! The singles final was really, really, really awesome. Pay no attention to the media coverage saying that it wasn’t a close match; it was close. There were five deuces in the first set alone. And the tiebreaker in the second set was very, very, very tense. My heart was pounding. Besides the lengthly rain delay, during which we went home, bought groceries, made dinner, and then rushed back, it was great.
However, what spoiled it for me was the handling of the doubles final. Right at the end of the awards presentation for the singles match, the announcer said “We’ll see you on Court 1 for the doubles final…” Well, at least half of the crowd wasn’t aware of this switch, especially because Centre Court (where the singles played) has reserved seating, and Court 1 doesn’t. So suddenly everyone had to go over to the other court. This would have been alright, except that the path was blocked by security people creating a path for the singles players to get back to the locker room. So we had to wait. When we finally got over to Court 1, the doubles final was already in progress – so everyone had to wait for a break before being let in. When that finally happened, we got in – to find that the match was already halfway through the second set. This bloody sucked, because I was really looking forward to the doubles final – I watched the doubles semi-finals the night before. So, we were pissed. Damn you, Tennis Canada. You’ll be getting a nasty letter from me.

trippin’ on sunshine
Listened to The Orb this morning on the subway. Haven’t done so in a long time. It’s kinda scary that they’re now considered ‘classic’ ambient by some people.
Zipped over to Guelph on Friday to see Sandy. She’d been having a really, really, really rough week, which didn’t go well with my sleep-deprived week of commuting. We patched things up though. We always seem to; neither of us have any problems with talking things out, which is probably the best thing a relationship can have.
Yay, Splorp is back.

more like a shot in the dark with clues left for no one
Well, yesterday was pretty melancholy, but today is feeling much better. Not much improvment in the sleep department last night, though.
Yesterday it seemed like the net did explode, from where I was sitting at least. One of my servers in New York was down for 15 hours because of a network problem at the ISP. And one of my favourite sites is still down, and has been for a few days at least. I still did manage to get a UNNA update out last night, although there’s a few things that I missed.
I was disappointed to hear that so many top seeds aren’t coming to Toronto for the women’s tennis tournament. I have tickets for the final this Sunday.
Sandy:
The swimmer is so far from the distant shore
The only time she never feels alone
On the land her body distorts
In the water lines are true to her mind
I can hardly see you now
Are you getting closer and
Do you know you’re the one?
They will never understand
How washed up you feel on the land
The spot light of the sun, it shines on
The Swimmer knows she’ll never touch the floor
She can float unharmed by murky wars
And the land is as plain as her skin
But the water shines like the star in her mindHope that helps. I’m thinking of you.

oh, no, wait, there is something to say
Is it just my imagination, or did the net explode today?

this song has no chorus
Nothing really of note to write about lately.
Null entry.

Got another Hed Kandi album: Serve Chilled 3. I was suprised that HMV is starting to get a little smarter: the cashier scrawled “EXCHANGE #2” on my receipt. I wonder what they’re going to start to do with this… anyways, I think I genuinely don’t like this album. A little too mellow for me. I should have gotten something with a little more edge.
Eugh… yeah. It’s time for one of my semi-regular lists ‘o crap! Yeah!
- Finally got that UNNA upload form done. It’s ugly, but functional.
- Working on NewtDump again. Almost have the ability to only export from specific folders working. Should eventually work for all of the built-in apps that support folders (Names, Notes, Calls, In/Out, Quotes, Fortunes).
- After some discussion in NewtonTalk where people said it couldn’t be done, I picked up an old Megahertz Allpoints Wireless Mobitex card courtesy of a reader, and am investigating the usefulness of writing a new NewtonOS driver for it. Phew.
- UNNA CD orders just keep comin’.
- Got free SMS again via Me43. So that means that phone@chuma.org is up and running again.

right or wrong don’t matter when you’re with me sweet
Man, over a week without a peep here isn’t like me.
Still listening to Cake. I don’t like short albums, but this one is good. You must go and watch the video for Short Skirt Long Jacket right now. Now! Cake madness is upon us! Protect your children!
Also listening to the Hed Kandi Summer Sampler 2001, which I got because it was cheap at HMV and I really enjoyed Deeper when I bought it on a whim a few months ago. I’m definately getting in touch with my house side.
On Friday I went to the Radiohead show at Molson Park. It was fucking bloody well awesome. Not much more to say. Beta Band and Kid Koala opened. Beta Band was… less than I hoped for. They played a very quick set. Kid Koala came up next, and spinned for about 45 minutes. Just him and three turntables. He’s very talented; I’d only heard a bit of his stuff before, but it sounds to me like he’s gotten a lot better – I might pick up some of his stuff. Radiohead was… well, fucking bloody awesome. There really isn’t much more to say.
The rest of the weekend was filled with stock car racing and seeing Rush Hour 2. I thought it was better than the first one, mainly because Chan stole the show this time around. Good fun. Also watched Heat on DVD. ‘Twas a good $20 spent. Damn I love that movie. Things I wouldn’t have known but for IMDB: Natalie Portman plays Al Pachino’s daughter. Damn. I never noticed.

i want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket…
Lucky for me I already have one.
Things that happened today that have never happened to me before:
- Toronto Hydro caused catastrophic system failure.
- The bank teller who served me today played on a softball team with me when we were kids.
- The subway took an hour (instead of 25 minutes).
I’m totally hooked on the new Cake album. This is a good thing.

there’s no single explanation, there’s no central destination
Back from Ottawa. All in all, it was a great trip. OLS was alright, although I didn’t spend all of my time there. In the draw for early registerers on Saturday, I won an Agenda VR3 Linux-based PDA. It’s… a nice toy, but there’s no way it’s going to replace my Newton. That, and Sandy just got a brand-new eMate 300, so we’re a Newton couple 🙂 The eMate is such a bloody great design. I only wish it had the faster StrongARM CPU.
